what a powerful story. I've read it 4 times and each time was as compelling as the first. some may question the veracity of this book, but for me a number of impressions lead me to believe it is true and unembellished. foremost is the consistency of the writer's tone, from the frustration of his arrest & trial, to the brutality of the trek to Siberia, and the matter-of-fact descriptions of the devotion and courage displayed by all during the escape to freedom. there is nothing hyperbolic in this story, it is simply an account with no effort spent on creating drama.
