The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife

by Audrey Niffenegger

This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or... Normally, I loathe time travel stories. They're too often cliche and fail to adhere to any kind of internal consistency. However, I loved The Time Traveler's Wife mainly because it's so different from other stories on the subject. In fact, the book isn't about time travel per se. It's about Henry, a time traveler, and Clare, his titular wife. And their daughter, and friends, and family.

In other words, nobody goes back in time to fight Nazis or alter history. It's a small-scale story...

I really liked the concept but I didn't care for the book. It didn't draw me in and the ending dragged on. I didn't feel much for the characters, either. I'm glad I read it but I won't pick it up again.

One of the best, most intriguing books I've ever read. When someone is looking for something intelligent, entertaining, and different this is the first book I recommend. I gave it to my husband, who wasn't interested at first, and persuaded him to just read the first chapter. He couldn't put it down! He still ravs about this book today, years after he first read it. This is one of those rare books which kept me guessing until the very end -- the plot is full of surprise twists. Reading this book took me on an amazing, emotional journey into the lives of the characters. TTW is the kind of book where I was pulled into really caring about the outcome. I didn't want the book to end! It's not the same-old love story -- it's truly unique and creatively written.

I loved this book. I've read many, many times. I can't wait for the movie. The movie will never be able to be what the book is (they rarely are, and never truly are when there are elements of science fiction). I'm excited to see what someone else's "vision" of the book is... I look at them as two separate things. I can always read the book again...

I won't see the movie either. Movies always ruin very good books. Once I read the book I almost never see the movie.

I loved every page of it and really wish Brad Pitt could have kept his hands off of it. I don´t think it is movie material, there is no way to show the whole complicated time jump story and the whole feeling of the story can´t be squished into an hour and a half. Besides, the casting sucks, the incredible Hulk as the sensitive Henry, puh-lease. I am not going to watch the movie, the story gives me a warm fuzzy "love shall overcome" vibe every time I read it and I don´t want that ruined by Hollywood antics. It is one of my favorite books and I would recommend reading it anytime.
