i really enjoyed this. to some meeting the devil may seem a preposterous idea but it can be viewed as a metaphor for mental illness or for those who believe darker forces are at work.

I finished about half of this book and then just gave up. You read the premise and think it's going to be really exciting but to be honest, it's not. It's not badly written, just not what I expected.

Really enjoyed this. The middle section was tremendous, and gave a lot of food for thought., on the nature of evil(the devil appeared as quite pleasant..)The description too of life in a small conservative Scottish village was well portrayed. Will certainly read more of his work.

I loved this! I thought it was going to be magical realism at first, which I hate, but this is different. Is he mad or sane? What really did happen to him in the river? I'm not sure I know the answers to either of these questions. Definitely one to re-read.
