It bears noting that this book on fundamentalist Mormons and the history of the Mormon church is written by a confessed agnostic. All writers bring some bias to the table. Perhaps because I share a similar worldview I found this book fantastic. But even if I were a devout believer, there would still be much to admire in Krakauer's exploration of the large and compounding effects of this truly American faith.

Eerie book about the ultra conservative branch of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Hated by the Mormon church...in additional notes added after the original publication, Krakauer answers some of the less than flattering allegations the church made about him after this book was published. Very interesting, very engaging.

I thought this book was kind of boring, actually. But, YIKES if it describes anything about the mainstream Mormon church today. I have to think it is mostly about the Fundamentalists but it basically portrays Mormons as polygamists, racists, and pedophiles. Oh, and a cult and the fastest growing (and 3rd largest) religion world-wide.

I LOVE this book. Krakauer tells the story about Mormon brothers who commit a very violent and brutal murder. To help the reader understand why these brothers came to such an end, Krakauer digs deep into the history and beliefs of the mormon religion. This book is not only an interesting story, but you will learn a lot from it also.

I liked his books about mountain climbing, but I am not sure about the content of this one. I will give it a try and may have to skip over any parts that are particularly grisly.

This is the true story of how the practice of polygamy played a large part in the murder of a woman and her young child. It is well documented and factual and offers a chilling view of Mormonism and polygamy.

So interesting! Love it when non-fiction reads like fiction! Learned a great deal about Mormons.

This non-fiction about religious fundamentalism in the Mormon religion is fascinating.
