For nonfiction, this had us all hooked. While slow in parts, it generated great conversation. It was overall a great read that had us questioning our beliefs (or, lack thereof!).

Just a fascinating look at the morman faith intertwined with a chilling tale of murder within the fundementalist faction.

I really enjoy reading the historical analysis behind the Mormon Faith. At times, this is unsettling, but it is certainly eye-opening. This book is worth a read but it is decidedly different than Into Thin Air, which I read previously. What I liked was his thorough, objective look at the history of Mormonism. Krakauer unveiled many aspects of this religion I had not heard about in this level of detail. My only objection is the amount of violence described--not only surrounding the primary topic. There's a lot of violent behavior in the history of Mormonism and Krakauer treats it objectively and in detail, but it weighed heavy on me after awhile.

Fascinating history of the Mormon faith and in particular the past and present practice of plural marriage or polygamy.

Very interesting read, and a must for insight into any/all religious fundamentalists.

An interesting read into Mormonism and a violent sect. Worth a read if you have some time to kill.

This book can piss you off, but not in the way that its badly written, its certainly not. Its the whole fundamentalist concept that pisses you off. If your curious read this, but warning this book will fly across your living room on several occasions from being so disgusted on what happens, the ideology, etc.

It bears noting that this book on fundamentalist Mormons and the history of the Mormon church is written by a confessed agnostic. All writers bring some bias to the table. Perhaps because I share a similar worldview I found this book fantastic. But even if I were a devout believer, there would still be much to admire in Krakauer's exploration of the large and compounding effects of this truly American faith.

Eerie book about the ultra conservative branch of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Hated by the Mormon church...in additional notes added after the original publication, Krakauer answers some of the less than flattering allegations the church made about him after this book was published. Very interesting, very engaging.
