Halberstam has a way of making history simple. He's very straightforward with his narrative and never seems to get wordy, and that's one element of many that I admired about this book. October 1964 focuses on the World Series between the aging Yankees and the vaunted St. Louis Cardinals. I enjoy the portraits that Halberstam paints of several of the players, most notably Bob Gibson, Curt Flood, and Mickey Mantle.
