The Teammates: A Portrait of a Friendship

I don't read many sports books anymore, but I heard a review of this on NPR once and it was a fairly short read (big plus!), so I picked it up. Really enjoyed it, showed the human side behind some baseball/Americana icons. Some great baseball history in there too, even if you're not a rabid baseball fan.

An incredible book. As great a ballplayer Ted Williams was, it was Doerr, DiMaggio-especially DiMaggio, and Pesky in their greatness who made Williams a legend in his own time.

A good book, well writen. As a long time die hard ST. Louis Cardinal fan it was tough picking up a book about the Boston Red Sox, but what a great time in baseball history and the way the book is presented it is an exciting read. The lasting friendship formed by Williams, Dimaggio, Doerr, and Pesky could be Brock, Flood, Gibson, and Javiar or just about any other three or four guys on a team in the 50's and 60's. It was a beautiful time in baseball. Ted Williams was a one of a kind for sure...an American treasure. ( Highly recomended )
