I carried this huge, clunky, hardcover book with me everywhere for weeks, reading it on the train, in the bathtub, anywhere that I could snatch a few minutes. The way Elie smoothly and logically intertwines the biographies of four Catholic writers of note whose direct interactions were limited amazed me as a writer, to the point that I would occasionally have to step back from (read: pry myself out of) the story to take a moment to appreciate how artfully it was constructed.
