“I was surprised by this suspenseful paranormal romance. Larsen Vale and detective Jack Hallihan are both strong and reasonably developed and the plot was tense and imaginative. I believed in the chemistry between Larsen and Jack and liked that the development of that relationship seemed to follow a natural course instead of getting pushed into it too soon in the story. There was a real sense of danger here, too, that I enjoyed.
The Dark Gate isn't a flawless book by any means, and I tend to prefer a book with a bit more meat on it's bones, a story with more than one dimension. I think The Dark Gate is a very good Silhouette Nocturne - one of the best I've read - and while it is a little thin on depth, the single thread of the story is quite original and suspenseful. 3.5 Stars and I will be checking out the sequel, Dark Deceiver.”
“You have to read this first book from newcomer, and local Washington Romance Writer, Pamela Palmer. A page turner. The only thing I didn't like was making the bad guy albino, but the story more than made up for the cliche. Look for more from her soon. I can't wait.
See www.wrwdc.com for my fellow chapter members' latest releases.”
“This book is WAY more fantasy than romance - involves battle of faeries vs humans that is full of heart stopping suspense. It was a book that kept me up way past my bedtime. ”

You can sense that the romance aspect in the story is strong, but the darker elements are greater.
I think you can say this is a great thriller with a beautiful romance woven into it.
Both Jack and Larsen are very strong individuals with their own gifts in life. Just like Jack, Larsen believe the gift is a curse, but nothing is what it seems.
The have this gift for a reason and when the story goes on, the more they cope with each new revelation.
The story behind the albino man is very fascinating to read about. Just the way one man alone can control an entire city by his comment except a few humans like Jack and Larsen.
And that is the same reason he sends everyone after them.
This is the first novel I’ve read by Pamela Palmer but I can say, if she continues writing like this I will defiantly try the next book.

“This review was originally done by me for Romance Junkies. http://www.romancejunkies.com Jack Hallihan is at a loss. Women are being assaulted and people are being murdered, yet no one remembers a thing. Even the victims come up blank when asked about their attacker. At the first scene an ancient amulet known as The Stone of Ezrie was stolen from the Smithsonian. Jack doesn’t yet know the connection, but there’s no such thing as coincidence. On top of all of this, the voices in Jack’s head are getting worse. He fears he’s slowly succumbing to the madness that killed his father. He’d be happy if he could figure out this case before the voices pull him under completely. Larsen Vale is known as the “ice queen.” She’s a lawyer believed to be a man-hater, thanks to her work defending abused women. What no one knows is that Larsen holds a terrible secret. She is cursed with visions of death. Because of this, she won’t let anyone get close to her. At the wedding of a client, Larsen has her first vision since childhood. Only this one is different, she sees her own death and the death of another man. In fear she runs, changing the outcome and runs right into Jack Hallihan. From the terror in her eyes he knows she saw something. After learning of the murder at the wedding, Jack believes Larsen is hiding something. He needs to keep her nearby to find out what she knows, and because he’s discovered that her touch quiets the voices in his head. Jack knows he needs her help to solve this case and keep his sanity. THE DARK GATE is one of the best page-turners I’ve read in months. Pamela Palmer has done a marvelous job with this one. Jack and Larsen are characters that you really care about. Each of them carries a gift that they don’t understand, and it’s only through each other that they come to terms with their abilities. The creature they fight is mystifying and terrifying. It killed me every time I had to put the book down because I wanted to know if they’d find his vulnerability and defeat him. At the same time I needed to see if Larsen and Jack would get past their faults and really come into their true potential. The sexual tension keeps you on the edge of your seat. Pamela Palmer really knows how to draw it out and make the progression into the bedroom a believable one. At the end of the story, when the moment of truth comes, after the monster is defeated, tears were nearly brought to my eyes. It’s so sweet and not to be missed. THE DARK GATE by Pamela Palmer is a must have paranormal thrill ride. Pick it up today. ”
