This is his best book that I have read. I liked this alot better than Jurassic Park. It was thrilling and another example of humans using science to overreach their bounds. In Sphere a group of scientists descends to the ocean depths where they discover more than just the ocean floor.

Michael Crichton has been my favorite author for quite sometime, so I was rather surprised when I dusted off my collection, and found a novel that I had not yet read. Sphere takes place in the near future, where the government has discovered an ancient spacecraft that has been buried under the ocean for 300 years. A special team of researchers is assembled, and then sent under the surface to investigate the strange object. The group soon soon learns that the strange device is an alien vehicle, but it's purpose remains unknown. Overall, this a teriffic read that is backed by loads of scientific information (as were all of Crichtons books). If you like science, technology, aliens, and suspense, then this book is perfect. 5 out of 5 stars.

I started out just reading this book for my science class but I ended up really liking it. I heard there's a movie, I want to see that and compare.

This was much, much better than NEXT by Crichton, which I read just prior to picking up this book. A group of American scientists goes to a Navy habitat set up on the bottom of the Pacific ocean to investigate what seems to be a 300 y.o. spacecraft on the ocean floor. It contains a sphere that, once entered, gives the entrant the power to manifest their imaginings. Very suspenseful, very good pace, and I could not have predicted the ending. That said, neither the sphere nor the ship are ever truly explained, so you're left wondering where this object came from and how it works. That element of unresolved mystery slightly trivializes the deaths in the novel; however, overall, a very good book.
