I must confess after reading this book i realised that building an organisation should not really be based on profit but should also be built to stand the test of time, most of the visionary companies did have some dark days but they survived and still functioning till date.

Its emphasis on building an organization focused on its core values and growth at the same time is convincing. It also showed in comparative review how these sample companies, visionary and otherwise, can last more than a lifetime. A must read for managers and CEOs of companies with less than 10 years.

I would say that Collins and Porras had done a great job. This book provide us with an exciting story of the great companies. Well-done research. Interesting narrative. Thought-provoking ideas. Lead us to the core. However, provide a wide space to criticism. A must read.

Good to read!! But beware. Not a bible of sorts.
need to put your clear thinking in before trying to implement what it says.

A well researched, factful analysis of what ticks in making a visionary company. A great resource to study, not a time pass read.

Book describes about what makes visionary companies tick after a research covering approx. 20 companies (3M, Motorola, P&G, Johnson and Johnson, IBM, Citibank, Sony etc). The book talks of core values and objectives, big hairy audacious goals etc. Some facts that amazed was that Motorola started as a Battery repair and battery eliminator manufacturer, J&J discovered talcum powder by accident and lots more in store if you read the book.
