“I know, this book is a business classic so why only give it four stars? Because I disagree with the premise. Capitalism isn't based on companies built to last. Actually, it's based on companies destroyed. The reason we like Silicon Valley is because it rests on top of a grave yard. Built to last is the ideology of communism, not capitalism.
That said, there are many great lessons in this book, especially the importance of having a Purpose, which I totally agree is vital to organization sustainability. The Halo Effect book has also taken this book to task, which I also find compelling. It's worth reading, but do so with a jaundiced eye.”
