I stumbled over this title in a book swap and had to have it! Being new to the Sci Fi genre, but an avid paranormal romance reader, Your Planet or Mine? was a terrific read. I ran right out and picked up 2 & 3 in the series (both of which I adored). A stand-out read of 2007 for me!

This is new style for author Grant. A lighter tone, a freer tone, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a bit of that old Twilight Zone episode where the old man is really a prince hiding on earth and he falls for little girl who is crippled. Not saying the plot line is anything alike, just that sort of feel. Grant evokes that sort of timeless sense of when the world was a bit gentler than it is now. I am looking forward to more in the series that begins with this promising start.

Nine-year-old Jana Jasper is the youngest child of a California state senator and a Russian ballerina. Jana knew great things were expected of Jaspers, but although she had a fertile imagination she had never been able to communicate verbally. She knew what she wanted to say but when she tried to speak the words got all jumbled and refused to come out. The one thing she wanted most was the gift of gab, and one night she got her wish!

A Coalition scientist has been sent to Earth to collect specimens in order to determine the planet's habitability. If the planet is found to be habitable, the Coalition would relocate the native inhabitants replacing them with their own citizens. Curiosity finds his young son, Cavin, caught in an oak tree beneath Jana's bedroom window. Unable to tell anyone about the magical glowing boy she dubs Peter (after Pan) Jana determines to rescue him herself. Cavin is as delighted with her as she is with him. For the first time he becomes concerned about the Coalition's intentions. Unfortunately he cannot stay. One night he return's to Jana's window to say goodbye. When Jana tries to follow him she trips and falls, cutting her knee. Cavin heals her wound, bestows her with a kiss, and flees. An amazed Jana calls after him, and it appears that he's done more than heal her outside. She can speak! Jana tells her older sister that some day she will marry that boy.

Jana put her gift to good use and by age 29, she had become the youngest state senator in California history. Unfortunately her social life hadn't been nearly as successful. Now at 32, the pressure was on for her to make a commitment or ruin her career. It's not that she hadn't tried. She'd even gone as far as to become engaged three times, but she'd never felt the magic that she'd felt as a little girl with "Peter", and that had been a figment of her imagination. Or had it?

When the Jasper's squeaky clean reputation is inexplicably tarnished, Jana is determined to keep a low profile. Unfortunately when she is approached in the supermarket, by a man resembling something from a video game, it becomes virtually impossible. No, he's not part of some new promotion. He's come specifically to find Jana. He claims to be that "imaginary" boy that had ruined Jana for other men. He had never forgotten her and had worked his way up through the coalition ranks with the single minded purpose of saving Jana and her world. Now Earth had reached the top of the Coalition's acquisition list, and to make matters worse, an assassin had been sent to make sure Cavin of Far Star never accomplishes his mission. So much for keeping a low profile! Now insanely in love and on the run, can the pair get to area 51 in time to save the planet?

What fun! This book is an emotional roller coaster with multiple elements of fantasy, humor, romance, intrigue, suspense, and a wonderfully strong family foundation without which the pair would have had no chance for success. Amazing! Your Planet or Mine? is a magical near-future adventure that is not to be missed.

California State Senator Jana Jasper credited the "glowing boy" she saw at age 9 as being an imaginary friend. After all, visitors from other planets just don't exist. However, when Cavin Far Star returns to Earth to warn Jana of an impending takeover, Jana remembers the boy she dubbed "Peter". Cavin wants to meet Jana's leaders, but Jana's family is currently under a vicious political attack so her clout is at an all time low. Meanwhile, a Terminator-like assassin wants Cavin dead. Can Jana and Cavin save Earth?

YOUR PLANET OR MINE? is a humorous foray into the science fiction realm. Susan Grant knows this genre well and she takes full advantage of all of the science fiction cultural icons already established, such as the connection to the Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator movies. Jana's habit of creating short, pithy Weekly World News style tabloid headlines is particularly catchy and provides some wonderful comic relief during some of the tense action scenes.

YOUR PLANET OR MINE? requires the reader to suspend a great deal of disbelief, which ordinarily is a bit harmful to books in this genre. However, Susan Grant's tongue in cheek approach to the entire looming alien invasion makes this quirky story work. YOUR PLANET OR MINE? is an out of this world adventure!
