More fun than "The Lake of Dead Languages," and equally compelling.

Has a bit of a smutty sub-plot that keeps me reading. Mystery is surrounding her mother's past life. I like narrator's voice and how she has a hard time getting things done and making decisions.

It was a bit slow takiing off, but only because I kept asking myself "really this is a thriller?", but when things started picking up it did end up being a great mystery read.

I enjoyed all the travels around NYC whichis my favorite city to visit, and the resort areas to the north. The hotel as a character was quite enjoyable and I loved reading about it.

It takes Iris the main character a bit of time to get into what is going on in her life, but it's to be expected of someone who going through the "all but" stage of her life.

I also really enjoyed reading about her students and their reactions to writing about their childhood folktales they remember.

The author writes at the end how she came up with the idea, and I enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed the book. It's my first read from Carol Goodman, and I look forward to more.

This novel weaves folk tales and real life in a sometimes confusing tangle-of-a mystery. Though slow at first, it gets better and even ends with quite a surprise.

This is the 5th book that I have read by this author, and although she repeats certain themes in many of her books and has a very distinct style, each book is enagaging and informative. Her main characters are usually young, attractive, highly educated women who become entangled in some sort of mystery. Her main characters are usually teachers, as Goodman is herself, and the character's students are usually involved in the mystery as well. This book intertwines classic fairy tales with the circumstances surrounding the death of the main character's mother, and a recent murder at the University where she teaches. Highly recommended!
