“"Bootcamp" By Todd Strasser is an amazing and thought provoking book! I recommend it to anyone and EVERYONE. Todd Strasser did a phemonenal job showing us through the eyes of a teen what the bootcamp/ boarding school/ reform school experience is like for many teens throughout the united states. Garrett is a teenage male who for reasons unaware to him is sent away by his parents. He is taken by people called "transporters" who are more like kidnappers to a remote place, and he has no idea where he is. We see through Garrett's eyes the brainwashing, torment, routine puishment, and loss of dignity that many teens in this situation deal with. Will his parents ever come back for him? Is there a way out? Does he have to lose who is he and become what they want him to be to survive? Does no good deed really go unpunished? What are the consqeuences of not conforming? How does abuse change people?
