Didn’t Like It“It was an okay book. Way too much football for me. I didn't really read the chapters if they didn't mention Michael Oher's name. I was glad when I finished. The book gets more into the football topic- not my thing. I liked the story of Michael's family. I think his dad, Sean, was a big influence in his life. ”

I continuously picked it up and put it right back down. As the trailer's came out for it's motion picture I contemplated reading it. After watching the movie, I decided to take a stab at it. I thought that this book had a lot of deep meaning that the movie lacked. Lewis repeatedly instills the importance of football in this book but he does the same with relationships as well. The strongest part of this book was the descriptive language pertaining to the relationships created and shattered. As a young kid, I would have read this for it's football content. Now that I have got a couple of books under my belt, I read for more than just football. The relationship that most intrigued me was the connection between Michael and Leigh Anne. The obvious fact is that Leigh Anne creates a huge impact on Michael's life, but what you don't realize is what kind of impact he makes on her. She was a different person after she encountered him. The little things she did or said were examples of what kind of effect Michael made on her. I thought this book was internally and externally intriguing through its relationships, focus on football, and excellent portrayal on it's society. ”

The writer is terrific...funny and entertaining AND describes the evolution of football so that even a dummy like me understands. I was very inspired....and am giving it to my son who will start teaching in the fall. It is a wonderful tribute to humanity...resiliency, altruism and protectiveness....loved it!”

Michael is still really shy and now just opening up to Leigh Anne.”

I was a bit turned off initially, because the beginning of the book talks about real football 'stats." I am not a football fan! Now the story is picking up and I am enjoying the book very much!”

Sports books aren't on my radar, usually. However, this book was amazing. Lewis is an amazing storyteller who weaves together the story of Michael Oher and other football players from the recent past into a tale that at times kept me on the edge of my seat. If there was a weakness in this book it was the fact the Lewis took the story right up to the edge challenging racial barriers without actually crossing the line. Although he certainly sees the disparity between east and west Memphis, black and white America, Lewis doesn't quite seem ready to really explore those issues. But with that said, he does certainly push at the boundaries and highlights the fact that for every Michael Oher who finds their way out of the inner city and into sports superstardom, there are scores of others who have the talent and go unnoticed as a result of their disadvantaged social status. Overall, a great read!”
