Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta are two of the most savvy and brilliant businessmen in baseball. Their ability to manage the Oakland A's under such tight financial constraints and with such strict objectivity is a business model from which anyone can benefit. I am not a baseball fan in the least, but even I found myself riveted by Beane's tactics and the inside of the game fans rarely get to see.

Not only is it a fascinating peak inside baseball of the Aughts and one man's quest for "a better way." Michael Lewis is a fantastic writer and, now, I read everything he produces.

This book was a great read for any baseball fan or for anyone who wants to get a deeper understanding of the game. This opened my eyes to the struggles of poor teams and what really matters for a team to succeed in baseball.

    Moneyball Michael Lewis

    3 stars

Moneyball takes a look at at the business of baseball, and how it's all about the big salaries and filling a lineup. Billy Beane was Okland's A general manager, dealing with a low budget but big dreams. Beane is looking for a way to make his team the best and give him the edge of the teams with big budgets.

Insightful look into the wonders of baseball statistics, and the challenge of putting together a winning team in a small-market franchise.

This book is kind of interesting, but when Paul DePodesta, one of the main 'moneyball' guys, was made the GM of the Dodgers, it was a complete disaster. Moral of the story- conventional wisdom got to be that way because it generally works.
