I enjoyed the author's writing style, her descriptions were beautifully written, the intricate plot was gripping, making the novel hard to put down, and I thought the characters were believable. I do have a bit of a hard time girls' schools like this really exist in the States, probably because this just isn't a reality here, or that teenage girls would enjoy learning Latin so much. But then, it's fiction, you can't expect everything to be life-like! I did manage to deduce most of the mystery long before it was explained, but I still wanted to keep reading to see if I was right, and the writing style alone kept me going back to this book. It is going on my Favorites shelf!”

Goodman writes a parallel story of the narrators teenage years and a current girl experiencing similar events. Set in the North East of the U.S. during the fall and winter, weather plays a large part in the story. A twisting mystery that is best read late at night, with a pot of exotic tea and wind rattling the sills.”

It's been twenty years since Jane Hudson left the Heart Lake Academy for Girls. She never planned on returning after the terrible tragedy that took her best friends' lives. Now, being seperated from her husband she returns once again to the school that she vowed never to return to as a Latin Teacher. It's not soon before things start happening just like they did twenty years ago. Jane is bound and determined to figure out what is going on and hopefully fully understand what happend twenty years ago.
This was my first book by Carol Goodman and I really enjoyed it. I had a hard time putting it down and stayed up way late into the night finishing it. I look forward to reading another one of her books soon.

“Very suspenseful. It kept me up late reading into the night. I didn't want to put it down. The first book I've read by this author but I am looking forward to reading another book by her!”
