A fun book about a kid who gets possessed (that might be too strong a word) by an ancient GO player and his slowly emerging interest in the game after initial disdain for it. Not having any idea what GO is or how popular it is seems to relegate this to only the strongest fans of all-things-Japanese but the illustration style may pull a few more in. Strangely, it is nearly impossible to tell that ALL of the main characters are male, they look STRIKINGLY feminine.

An excellent story including a ghost, a regular boy, and a Japanese game called go.

I found this at the library and gave it a shot. I was surprised at how much I liked it.

The basic story is about a sixth grade boy (Hikaru) who finds a game board (the game is called "Go") and connects with a spirit trapped in the board. The spirit is a Go teacher who is happy to be back in the world and able, once again, to play and watch Go games. The spirit convinces Hikaru to play and the adventure begins.

If you're thinking "Wow! That sounds boring" so was I but something drew me in and I actually found it an exciting read. Pretty surprising for a story about an ancient board game.

I only picked this up because it's from the artist who also drew Death Note, but I was pleasantly surprised. Who knew Go could be so intriguing?

OMG I love it, I've never heard of Go until I read this. Cool kid, nice art, awesome and highly recommended (I've only read the first four so far).
