Hikaru’s newfound determination seems to crumble under the intimidation tactics of a much older and uncouth player in the beginnings of the pro test preliminaries. Shaken, he looses the next couple of matches before managing to win and squeaking through to the next day by luck. Waya drags Hikaru to a Go salon to introduce him to the concept of playing under pressure by constantly raising bets against everyone in the room who would challenge them. Hikaru, to his surprise, rises to the challenge and gains new confidence and determination, ready to face the next day of competition at the pro test. While the narrative drags a bit, one can’t help but suspect that this is merely setting up events that transpire later.”
