This was such a good book, despite it breaking my heart in some places, it instilled hope where I wouldn't expect to find it. Heartwarming, touching, honest, and speaks straight to the heart. Do NOT miss this book.

The story charts the spiritual journey of three women on Long Island as they grow from young girls to mature women. It's short and humorous, so it makes a great quick read.

The bittersweet coming of age of Gretel Samuelson...how she manages to go on in the face of so much loss...sad yet often wry, ironic and yes even funny. I have yet to read a book by Alice Hoffman that I didn't enjoy!

A great book that really gets into the un-pleasantries of real life but still is filled with wonder and fun too.

I thought this book was just ok. I didn't develop the liking for the characters like I did in Practical Magic. I just thought it was an ok story and read. Just one tragic circumstance after another it seems. wasn't as impressed and am glad this was not my first read from her.

A quick read, at under 200 pages. It took me a while to get into it, but when it was done I was wishing it was longer.

I read this book in one day; I couldn't put it down. After I finished, I sat on my couch just thinking for about 40 minutes. It really touched me.

Gretel and Jill are best friends, growing up in Rhode Island. This novel explores the affect that love has on us all. Our desire for romance, and our need to be loved are dissected and we are shown what we are all willing to do for love, or not do. Franny, Margot, Jason, Eugene, Eddie. There is an incredible scene where one character decides to go out and find, and purchase her own cemetery plot. Made me cry.

This book focused on a young girl and various family and romantic relationships. I very much enjoyed this very quick read. It kept my attention and I found myself caring about the various characters.
