“Meeting in-laws for first time during a claustrophobic family week at their house in the Adirondack Mountains … what could be worse? Brotherly rivalry from something that was assumed to have happened over 20 years ago made the visit even worse. This is a second marriage for Isabel and the novel weaves back and forth between her first marriage and the present marriage. I really enjoyed the author’s style of writing, character development, great descriptions and sense of place. During the forest fire scene I could almost smell the smoke. An accurate portrayal of clinical depression made me feel the black moods.
My only negative comment would be the mini "dissertations" on environmental aspects. When I was reading the book, I felt they sometimes interrupted the flow of the story. Looking back, they were interesting.
Roxana Robinson will be coming to town in October and I hope to hear her lecture. I never heard of her before and can’t wait to read more of her books.
