Fictional period novel, something I don't usually read. It has lots of characters, having a bit of a tough time keeping them straight. But, I like it so far. Each scenario is happening simultaneously throughout, so lots of plots to juggle. It is a rather long book, I'll try and finish it. The only thing I don't understand is why France and the UK and France declared war on the USA, perhaps that was in some context from the other works of the author. Since this was Book 1 of a trilogy, thought I would get the full scoop. But, that is laid out as a given. There's a context for the rise of the South , but not Britain. Oh well, I'll rate it a 3 stars for now and keep an open mind as to how I like the book when I am finished.
