difficult subject matter. important to remember such times and the strength and love that can be seen in the midst of such ugliness.”
“Written by a poet and you can tell. The words and use of language in this book render it absolutley beautiful.”

It follows a couple of men and the war issues are really in his memory. Read others reviews before tackling it. I saw it in a review and decided to try it. The language is quite exceptional and it has the philosophical issues woven through it.”

Lines like "To remain with the dead is to abandon them" really require some introspection into one's own life.”

Often she switches time/place/character and before even feeling you've read three words, your emotions have reacted.....some of it is typeface, but mostly word choice and the set-up, so you know that those next three words mean something dramatic for that protagonist. It's partly about how the holocaust resonates down generations in different ways. Anne Michaels is an award-winning poet and took 12 years to write this novel, seems as if every word is poetically perfect. This is the only book ever rated highly by every member of my bookgroup (I've been in it for 13 years and there are usually about ten of us).”
