Characters/People edit see section history

  • Hannah Rosnic: We meet Hannah on the first day of what should be third grade...but she knows none of what a normal 8 year old knows...her widowed mother is overwhelmed just raising Hannah's brother and baby sister. How can this reclusive, depressed and almost animal little girl be drawn into Mary's busy classroom?
  • Mary: We know Mary from A Circle of Children. She is an experience special-ed teacher by now. But Hannah is more challenging than she had expected!
  • Brian: Add a description of this character.
  • The Director: Though an inspiring school director, in this story she withdraws her support from Mary and this forms a tense subplot to the main tale of how to help Hannah.
  • Rufus
  • Patty: Co-teacher with a class of girls in the classroom next to Mary's. These two teachers form a mutually supportive team, and thus their kids are helped by knowing two gifted experienced educators.
  • Henry: The crusty, loving caretaker at the church. He sleeps away most afternoons in the church basement, but is always ready to suddenly help Mary with whatever new challenges her students dish up!
