This Is probably one of the deepest books I've read---I had to reread it to catch all he little details I missed! The first couple pages just flipping through I thought it was just going to be any old book--but as I progressed I grew more and more intrigued. It has so much meaning and truth to it. A complex plot with complex concepts. Truly a great book. And each time you read it is like a new adventure.

Read it for University English class. I thought it was pretty good, I'm doing an essay on it right now about the apocalypse references.

It's a pretty good read with a large theme running through it that people, like horses, did not choose to die in World War I.

A psychological study of the adverse impact of war on a benevolent mind.

The Great War and it's battles, both epic and personal are better told in Joseph Boyden's "Three Day Road".

    See my review for details.

Moving story, so well told. Gruesome in a couple of spots, though - unfortunately, those I remember above all else.

I studied this at University. It is an amazing book and Timothy Findley is an amazing author - Canadian too!

Robert Ross is a sensitive and troubled soldier. He is unable to handle life and all its horrors. A sad story that has more to do with internal battles than external ones.
