“So did the ending bother anyone else? I mean the book starts on one track of this murder and how the obsession of solving her murder began. Spreading from her father to her sister. Then the book switches to a second track exploring more of the drama in how the murder effected the family. But still the author weaves in details that keep the first objective of bringing her murder to justice alive. The ending seems perfectly set up to solve both story line in a beautiful and fullfilling way. We have Ruth returning to inspect the sink hole where her bones lie and seeing Susie and even letting her take over her form. Even better Harvey is in town. As I read I was incredibly pumped thinking "this is it! This is where they will catch him and her family can finally have some peace". Susie has sex and talks nothing about her killer being in town after her sister!?!? The conflict with her family seemed hardly resolved. And other then the fact that her killer was killed in the same way she called a perfect murder earlier in the book.... it felt shallow and unfullfilling. I loved this book and was deeply upset that the author did not try to make an intellectual as well as a fullfilling ending for the audience. ”
“HEY this is a Movie!!! ”
“Just saw the list of actors and the trailer for the upcoming movie. The main character is played by Saoirse Ronan, she was in Atonement - and I loved both the book and the film ) Hopefully it won't be a disappointment. ”
“Very good read, gripping and keeps you hanging on!”
“& if they screw this book in theaters as they did with my childhood favorites " A series of unfortunate events" I will be very very irritated. Let the books be books!!!”
“Let's face it - this piece of writing was incredibly true & incredibly sharp. You felt it with every word you read. Yes, you had nightmares. Felt sadness for Susie. You hated that creepy old man. & you smiled for her as she lived & experienced one of life's most incredibly feelings, sexual or not; Alice Sebold kicked riveting literature butt!”
“Oh I thought the book was wonderful. I do have to admit the first night reading it I did have nightmares. I also thought that the book was very sad, speacially when she went into describing her murder. ”
“I'm currently in year 12, and am doing English studies, i need to find a suitable movie or text which would accompany the main themes in "The Lovely Bones".. I need to write an essay based on a crafted question of my choice which compares two texts.. I would like to go along the lines of how the loss of a person impacts a family.. but I'm not quite sure.. so if you have any suggestions of movies or texts, all help would be appreciated! Thanks!”
“READ BEFORE DECEMBER 11th, 2009!Unless you're the kind of person who likes to read a book AFTER you see it in theatres. I'm so excited about this movie. But if they mess it up head will roll”
“I found this an okay read but not great literature. The characters seemed rather cardboard and I couldn't really care about them enough.”
