Kirsten goes to help her brother, Lars, with the trap line. He talks about a hunter named Old Jack, but Kirsten thinks that he sounds creepy, so she doesn't want to think about him. One day, she finds a baby racoon in a trap. It's still alive, but injured. She takes it home to nurse it back to health. Instantly, trouble begins. When she brings it inside, it starts a fire that burns down their home. They need money to build a new home, but the money just from the trapping line won't be enough. When they get lost in the woods one day, Lars and Kirsten find Old Jack's home in the woods and decide to stay their overnight. They find him dead, but there are lots of expensive furs in their. If they sell all of the furs in their, they will be able to buy a new house. This is a very important discovery.
