“The Visual Display of Quantitative Information (nf-info design)
co1983 (Fourteenth Printing March 1995) Read April 1999.
This is Tufte’s first book, and this date concludes my first reading of all three publication (reading order: 2nd, 3rd, 1st over three years time). This read was the most direct and simple of the three, setting the baseline by which I would measure the others. Wish now that I’d read them in order. Did most of the reading on the commuter bus over two weeks time. Imagine me, standing in the aisle during the evenings, swaying back and forth and forward and back to the whims of the drivers, managing the 8.5 X 11 hardcopy format along the way.”
“Great! A must-read for everyone who must visualize figures, say for powerpoint, user interfaces or anything. Read it now!”

While it's impractical to apply Tufte's directives exactly in a real-world business environment due to constraints on time and cost, one can apply Tufte's general philosophy in every action involving quantitative data. Meaning, for 90% of the business world today, excel worksheets & charts, and powerpoint slides.

“Tufte is a horrible writer (disorganized) but it doesn't matter. He doesn't write that much and the thrust of the book is the images demonstrating the power of visual images. ”

While not all of Edward Tufte's books have been winners, this one certainly is. You will be hard pressed to find a better book about how to adequately, accurately, and concisely present lots of data and number information to your business and non-technical audience.”

The prose is fine, but the illustrations are extraordinary. The book is worth a look if you have any interest in the visual analysis of data, but it is a must if you actually have to work with the stuff.”
