ZMM is one of the most important books you will ever read. A true 'worldview' book, it grows on you.

Pirsig says you cannot define quality, but if anything has quality, it is ZMM

I think this is one of those books where you have to read it several times over to fully appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it quite a bit...but I think that with each read more details come into play and it makes more sense.

After reading this book, a journey in the car has always felt inadequate, the sight of even the most spectacular views from a moving car is inadequate as am seeing through a box, wish to be on a bike- in and part of the scene. Also the idia of quality was amazing- told me to do things well or not live at all - there was no point otherwise. Amazing book.

Did this book make you travel?

On a cycle, by road or just a plain walk... but the question is did it?

The book made me want to travel. It also made me want to learn to ride a motorbike.

In later years I became very interested in hiking and backpacking too, another form of travel I am very interested in. Of particular interest to me is the Pacific Crest Trail which is a 2600 mile journey from the mexican border in california, through to the Canadian border in Manning park BC. People do this end to end in 6 months with a LOT of planning ahead.

Have travelled a bit, namely a 5 week journey in New Zealand, in a car, and a stop in Sydney. Very full of adventure... Loved it.

No travel by bike yet, nor longer term travel like many of my friends and my wife have done. Maybe someday...

I would venture to say that Pirsig's travel experiences were a metaphor for his mental journey. That's the traveling we all need to do.

This book did not actually make me want to travel. To me, travelling with Pirsig and his son didn't sound particularly fun, lol. On the Road was the book that actually set off my traveling bug. What Zen did do was make me crave quality in my life, right down to being able to fix my own car--which, with the help of my fiancee, I'm learning to do now.

After reading this book I dreamt, planned and did a cross country trip lasting 2 and half months.
