“possibly the only space adventure sci-fi book i have ever liked. i liked that the author focused on the characters and their personalities, feelings and experiences instead of making it all about the ship.”

Ultimately, with post-dated near-future tales like this, it's rare to have more hits than misses, and this novel is no exception. The politics are unrecognizable, but I suppose once sounded almost plausible.”

With life being reported on Saturn's largest moon, Titan, Baxter warns of time when a failing American space program will be corrupted by the fundalmentalist-right. A few nostalgic-souls pull together resources from a crumbling fleat of Apollo era space relics for one final mission to the methane-rich moon. Along the way, the astronaughts face-off with each other as the Earth they left behind pretty much meets a fantastical end. But what of Titan? Hmmm... If you like space-related minucia, instead of plot... read on... otherswise you may be skimming a lot. I tend to agree with Steven Silver who blogs, "Perhaps the biggest problem Titan had was its pacing. Although it may take 2460 days for Discovery's crew to reach Saturn, the reader shouldn't be made to feel that it is taking them the same six years to complete the novel. " (676)”
