Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)

Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)

by Christopher Paolini

Here's a great big fantasy that you can pull over your head like a comfy old sweater and disappear into for a whole weekend. Christopher Paolini began Eragon when he was just 15, and the book shows the influence of Tolkien, of course, but also Terry Brooks, Anne McCaffrey, and perhaps even Wagner in its traditional quest structure and the generally agreed-upon nature of dwarves, elves, dragons,... Kind of book which you read whole day and end up dreaming about it.
This was the first time I read about dragon and I really enjoyed it.
A fast paced story about the adventures, quasi-adult/child reading
The portrayal of Dragon as a friend is good enough to override your prejudice mind.
Good fantasy and the bond between Eragon and Saphira(the Dragon) is the best part of the book.

Yes,yes, yes, it is amazing that this was written by a young boy, & not surprisingly, it reads that way, too! What I find most amazing though, is that it was published since it is such a mish-mash, rip-off of much better written fantasy. I have no desire to read more of this series. Save your money & buy the real things: Lord of the Rings, The Prydain Chronicles or The Chronicles of Narnia. Best word to describe it: BAH!!

I like this book but I really do think that Eragon made a whole lot of mess-ups....it probably wouldn't have been too hard if he wasn't so foolhardy but then again there wouldn't be a story!!

The book was great! The movie was a very disappointing. I was told not to see the movie by other people who had read Eragon. I didn't think it would be that bad so I watched it. I guess I proved myself wrong. If you have read the book, please don't see the film. But if you do see it don't expect to see a high quality film.
I am now reading the book again to cleanse my memory :)

I'm glad that many people consider the movie worthless. I had read the book about two years before the movie came out, and I loved the book, and when I saw the movie it was the most disappointing thing ever, as curt r says it barely followed the storyline, I can understand that they had to cut off some things to make it into a movie, but other very different thing is to completely change the plot. Anyway, I tell everyone not to watch the movie, but read the book, which I think is very good :)
