“this series is very long & very complicated, but if you like fantasy, i recommend george r.r. martin. the plot will get into your head.”Hayley M wrote this review Sunday, September 28, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Still amazing as far as fantasy goes, but I had to give it a lower rating than the rest because I would much rather have to read a book twice as long than have to wait for years for what is essentially the other half of the book to come out. Also, what's up with Rickons story?”Andrea B. wrote this review Saturday, August 30, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I am reading this book right now it is the 4th book in the authors series and while I love some of the characters the author goes into WAY TOO MUCH detail about stuff I dont care about.... What people are wearing what they are eating what everyones' shields look like UGH. So if you get into this series beware. They are good but very long winded and sometimes things dont move quickly enough or he leaves main characters for long periods of time.”Barbi B wrote this review Wednesday, August 20, 2008. “A Feast of Crows picks right up where A Storm of Swords leaves off, but doesn't cover all the characters like before, Most significant to me is the missing Tyrion (quite a cliffhanger from the previous book, and constantly mentioned in this one). The reason given by Martin is that the book would have been too long.
The quality of the writing has not changed; very solid, and i equate him the Stephen King of the fantasy world. He does seem to spend a little too much time with (seemingly) minor characters, and the overall cast of characters that pass through the storyline is starting to become unmanageable to those without photographic retention (i have to hit the wiki to remember the significance of some of the players).
Overall I would recommend this and the entire series to those with a lot of time and enjoyment for fantasy.
“While it seems people feel a little let down by this one, I think Crows is just as good as the other books in the series. Sure, everyone isn't heard from in this edition, but they'll be back; and the stories of these characters are equally as important to the overall tale as anyone else in Martins' epic.”Pawbones wrote this review Wednesday, July 30, 2008. “This book is the crown jewl of epic fantasy novels. The fourth in the series and they just keep getting better, the world is so immersive and deep that you actually care whats going on in the world and what happens to the characters, who are themselves varied and unique. for a novel with such a large number of characters they are supprisingly complex and deep, George R R Martin is at the top of his game and has me begging for more. I would only recomend this book to serious and mature readers, besides being very adult in nature the book is near one thousand pages long and can be a challenging read in the early chapters unless read immediately after it's predecessor”Goosemuffin G wrote this review Monday, July 28, 2008. “It was disapointing compared to the first three books (a game of thrones, clash of kings, and a storm of swords). he split this book into two books (the next book in the series was supose to be a part of this book) and I feel that it took away from the story, Still waiting for that next book. but it is still still a must for fans of this series.”jerry j wrote this review Tuesday, July 8, 2008. “Where the hell is this guy's editor? This "trilogy" is spinning out of control. I wish this guy could just finish his work already. He's not writing for a Pulitzer -- finish the series.”Hersh R wrote this review Monday, June 9, 2008. ( reply | view 1 replies | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“i, like everyone else that has read the first three books in this saga and loved it, have been waiting patiently for this book to come out. and when it finally did, it was a major letdown. all of your favorite characters are nowhere to be seen and martin has introduced new characters to add to the unlimited cast. i was not happy with this one. i'm hoping that the 5th installment due out (HOPEFULLY) this fall in '08 will be what we've been waiting for.”misplaced mermaid wrote this review Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
