“Kanigel unravels enigma that is Ramanujan in a very lucid way. Lot of research has gone into writing as is obvious by the way he describes the life and pepole both in South India and Cambridge. Auther's handling of mathematics does not require a mathematician to appreciate Ramanujan's contribution in the field.”
“A wonderful book and a well-researched one. Well worth the price and a must-read for anyone who has heard of the amazing story of this Indian mathematician. Interestingly, the book also covers the story of G. H. Hardy, the mathematician who is credited with "discovering" Ramanujam and is definitely to be credited with making the latter's work visible, accessible and accepted by a legion of mathematicians and engineers. In a curious way, it is Hardy who comes across as the more complex character, though it is Ramanujam's story that remains the inspiration. This is a dense read - the author has sprinkled the narrative liberally with theorems and formulae although I must say that he has done an amazing job of explaining the value and purposes of the same. It is not a book for the casual reader. Make a pot of tea, clear your schedule for a Saturday afternoon and prepare to be engrossed, inspired, rejuvenated yet saddened by the short but rich life of a mathematical genius.”
“amazing book..... a must read for every one”
