For Hannah Swensen, the owner of a local cookie shop in small town called Lake Eden, it is just another day at The Cookie Jar until she discovers a local delivery boy murdered behind her shop, in the middle of eating one of her famous cookies. She immediately notifies Bill Todd, her brother-in-law and local policeman. Bill is aspiring to become a detective and if he can just solve this murder he will be promoted. So, Hannah agrees to help him investigate and solve the murder in order to help him and to clear the name of her cookies. Throughout the story her mother, Delores, makes it quite clear that she thinks a 30-year old woman should be married and attempts to set her up with multiple men. Her sister, Andrea, on the other hand would prefer that she stay focused on the case since it is her husband who is hoping for a promotion. As she investigates the case she learns many unexpected things about the seemingly innocent small town. However, the plot twists when she discovers one of her suspects dead in his office.

Quotes edit see section history

  • “"Hannah did her best to practice positive thinking as she mixed up the dough. She'd won a jackpot last night, and if her luck held, Bill's new colleague wouldn't be the type of man that her mother would consider as a prospective son-in-law. Unfortunately, as far as Delores was concerned, any ambulatory male without a felony conviction was a viable candidate."”
