It is amazing that nearly all precepts regarding war (in any form) can be laid out in such simple, direct and succinct language. I doubt that any modern book on the subject could enlighten more. Interestingly, the concepts of victory and defeat and the reasons for both are applicable not only to war, but to any situation where you are in conflict. Highly recommend.

You definitely have to read this with the commentary. It illustrates the book with examples from Chinese history that prove all the maxims Sun Tzu wrote. This was half poetry, half philosophy and very interesting.

    Still relevant and quoted today:
"This decision violates a cardinal rule of warfare first promulgated by the Chinese strategist Sun Tzu in his classic The Art of War – always give your enemy the opportunity to retreat. The corollary to a political campaign is that one must always give one’s opponent the opportunity to bow out gracefully. Manipulating the rules to ensure Hillary cannot possibly win does not give her that opportunity, and given the psychology of the individual in question, virtually ensures a continued battle.
