It is difficult to find another book or series where characters grow and evolve more convincingly and interestingly than the manner in which Ender Wiggin...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Although they claim you don't need to read Ender's Game first to enjoy this, I can't imagine not having the background info from Ender's Game before reading this - plus...Ender's Game is fantastic too.
Speaker for the Dead is really the classic "humans interact with another species" story - and bad things and good things both ensue. But Card is a masterful writer, and his characters and stories feel real and substantial and new.”
“I listened to the audiobook for this one. Although it was well-done, I prefer to read these in print format. (Possibly the commuter-related delays in the storyimpacted my interest level.) It was a good premise and the characters were interesting. ”

The old Ender is even more convincing, however Novinha is giving new depths to the book. Lusitania, with religious and superstitious, yet highly technological society, together with its aboriginal inhabitants and their strange cycle of life are a must read for all lovers Ender and Orson Scott Card. ”
“This is a different sort of read than the Shadow Series by Orson Scott Card but it is still good, in its own sort of way. This book digs deep into life in the future, you actually believe that something like this story can actually exist. As I was reading Speaker For The Dead it actually seemed like I was part of that future. Everything that was new to someone who belongs to the present was explained well enough so that that someone could understand it. This book does go into more psychology than the Shadow Series and is less action packed. It is more of a mystery rather than political and military. Five stars from me.”

Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered, but again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. ”
