  • Johannes Brahms: German composer in the Romantic Era. Born May 7, 1833 in Hamburg; died April 3, 1897 in Vienna.
  • Clara Schuman: Wife of composer Robert Schumann. After Schumann was committed to an asylum, Brahms assumed head of the Schumann household and looked after Clara and her children.
  • Joseph Joachim: Virtuoso violinist and lifelong friend of Brahms.
  • Robert Schumann: German composer who helped start Brahms' career.
