“Totally devastating family events of famous producer/agent Leland Hayward and 1st wife Margaret Sullavan.
Written by oldest daughter. Sister + brother + mother all committed suicide.
Sister had epilepsy.”
“Fascinating book about a woman who grew up as part of Hollywood royalty. An interesting insider's view of growing up with Jane and Peter Fonda as best friends, Jimmy Stewart as as close family friend and neighbor, and all the 1940's Hollywood stars arriving at the house for parties. Leland Hayward was most fascinating to me. Brooke's mother, Margaret Sullivan, came across a difficult to live with. I liked the block quotations from Hollywood insiders interspersed throughout the text.”

A fascination with forties movies and relatives that followed the lives of the actors way back then still leads me to read all I can about them and try and understand the influences on American movies.
I remember my aunt telling me about Dennis Hopper and his fast and furious marriage to Brooke Hayward...lifestyles of people I can only imagine. It's sad, really, this book and one can't help but wonder what place drugs-prescriptions of the time and drinking had on much of the chaos and wrecking of lives and possibilities.”
