Gave me new language and new metaphors with which to understand the drive in my heart and my world view.

    What a long book!
I enjoyed this book. It was a lot of reading and even more thinking.
I couldn't help but place the America of today in the America of the book. Things are so close! And I can see us ending up the same, too, if we don't change our path.
This epic novel is filled with Rand's philosophy. While I agree with her politically, I disagree with a lot of her philosophy.
But the story was good reading.
Dagny Taggart is the main character and it's her against the political world. She runs a railroad and is forced to fight politics and the public over and over.
Along the way she meets up with a few people of same mind, and they team up to take on society.
There's a bit of everything in this book: Action, mystery, love, lust, hate....
I recommend it, but only if you read with an open mind (but not too open).

It took me over a year but somehow I got through it. I actually agree with many of the tenets of Rand's philosophy, Objectivism, but I think she sucked as a novelist. It is not an easy read, much like eating Saltines without anything to drink. I felt I should read it because I needed to know why so many people seem to hate Ayn Rand. Call me nuts but I might just try to get through it again before I die.

I liked this book, but there were parts that I found really slow. It took me about three months to read it and it is going to be a while before I take on another really long book!

My ultimate favorite book of all time! Love everything about this story; from the theory of objectivism Rand so meticulously lays out, to the romance, characters, and setting. The four most perfect men of all time reside within the pages of this book.

I'm not a capitalist nor do I consider myself an expert among the Ayn Randian followers of the world. Still, it's always impressive when an author can use her characters to carry ideas that are heavy as the world's weight (that's a metaphor and a double entendre...I'll give you a minute...)...Okay. Also, kudos to any writer who can make getting through their novel feel like a personal accomplishment. Who is John Galt?

The language in this book is so dated, but I so agree with the concepts being espoused!
