Absolutely wretched. I would give it zero stars if I could. An abhorrent moral wrapped in a poorly told story. The entire novel is based on the myth of the American Meritocracy, which is patently false--the rich are not necessary our smartest and best citizens, and neither are the poor money-sucking leeches. Do yourself a favour, and skip it.

Though not very convinced about there being no need of support to be extended from stronger for weaker, following extract from book,a
comment on need for approval(perhaps the globe one has to carry), is the essence of the book i carry with me :
"Do you suppose I should try to get D’s for a change and become the most popular girl in school?” Francisco stopped, looked at Dagny and slapped her.".
Also the comments in the book on sacrifice clarifies how usually our "non forced" choices for action are hidden under its nomenclature falsely, as every choice we make is about which is more important value to us than another.

Yes, you too can be an asshole for a month if you read this. Trust me, there is nothing that will make you want to tell everyone how wrong they are. Then you will regain your senses and read something like Siddhartha and feel better.

Hank Rearden is one of my favorite male characters ever written. As strange as it may sound to some people this is the kind of book that makes me want to be a better person. It cannot be otherwise when it is filled with lines like "all work is creative work if done with a fully thinking mind."

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
