“Quite right. Your hating to be her child is a perfect an analog to hating to be in her vision of society. The US and world economies are experiencing what happens when her ideas are brought into action as I type this. For the other side of the coin, read Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine."”
“Indeed! Few people cared as long as the negative side effects were mostly to be felt in the sweat shops of Asia, but with the current crisis on their very doorsteps, people can hardly fail to notice that Laissez Faire Capitalism is just as deleterious as its ideological opposite, and for similar reasons:it leaves those who have the means and the power to exploit their position to do so, without it even being illegal. As an aside, Ms. Rosenbaum had a *very* poor understanding of Capitalism, an even poorer grasp of philosophy, and virtually not the slightest clue about human nature and the working principles of a society. People have pointed out that both her personal conduct and the beliefs expressed in her novels and non-fiction writings are almost textbook expressions of a narcissist personality disorder, but as I'm not a psychologist, I withhold my judgment in this case, and make do with calling them plain atrocious.”
