I'm only a little bit into this book so far. Although very disturbing, I am fascinated by it. (Haven't seen movie.) I believe it is fiction, not a memoir however as a teacher and a member of society at large, to know this type of abuse, neglect, etc. takes place in homes, sometimes more so in low-income uneducated communities, is so eye-opening. As a teacher, I think it's necessary to remind ourselves that children sit on our classrooms in the public education system who have to face the most horrific home-lives where just surviving day by day is their only fighting will to exist. Welfare, education reform, racism, incest, etc. are raw parts of this story but it's worth so far, reading, I think. I like the title which I interpret as two-fold. "Push"- what you do when you're in labor (poor precious pregnant by her own father,) or "push" yourself or someone else could "push" you to get out of your pitiful desperate hopeless life through education and compassionate mentors.

Both the book and the movie scarred me slightly. They're burned into my brain and I'll never forget either.

I want to read this book and watch the movie...already reading the blurb and watching the trailer, I feel sorry for Precious...she doesn't deserve this. But in the movie, it's amazing how Mo'nique is playing an abusive mother in a dramatic, poignant movie, when she's a comedian...she must be a very good actress.

The ending was both realistic and bitter sweet, it reminds we when P & Miss Rain discuses the color purple ending.
it's realistic in its bleakness, but heartwarming upbeat.
I believe that without spoiling much, it was a most fitting ending to the most profound i book i had ever the pleaser to read.

yeah I don't think this book was about a girl with a hard life that overcame it. How? It didn't show that she overcame her terrible life. I hope the movie has a better ending.

Did anyone else feel the ending was lacking?? I felt like the book had no ending...like where did her life go? Did she finish school? Get her G.E.D? Get out of the halfway house? I just felt the book just cut off and left me thinking that it was missing a few chapters at the end!

The cover of my book is red with black letters, but maybe the writer used her picture on the cover to represent what precious longed to become
