I really enjoyed this book. I found myself pushing for precious. There are no happy people in this book.

I teach high school in the inner city and I know how this happens. Oftentimes administrators at the local level and higher up often pressure teachers into "passing" students who are failing. Everytime I have to prepare my grades, I have to figure out which students I definitely have to fail (either because of attendance, or other reason) and the others end of passing with D's. It is sad that many students get pushed along due to administration who truly don't care. This book hurts me because I know how these things occur and oftentimes there is nothing that can be done about it.

One of the most affecting books I've ever read. I've often wondered how true to life it is and would love to read more like this by Sapphire, if she is able to repeat such a marvelous feat, though I haven't been able to follow what else she has written.
