Very enjoyable characters in this fun fantasy. It's actually the third book in the Chalion series, but it's a prequel in a different setting and I had no trouble reading it as a stand-alone novel. I plan to pick up more Bujold soon.

this was a fair book. not as good as the others in this particular series by Lois McMaster Bujold... but it's interesting to read about the possibilities of being inhabited by an animal spirit...

Bujold's women are always strong and interesting. Complex people in a world with believable conflicts.

Fantasy/mystery mixes feel fresh and interesting, so it's a shame Bujold doesn't quite manage to pull it off. Still a good read, if not up to par with her Vorkosigan novels.
