Another solid entry in the Jack Daniels series. In this one Jack is hunting a man who's poisoning Chicago. Will she be able to catch him before he does too much damage? The stuff with Harry is getting a little old. He's put in there for cominc relief, but he's just annoying. It's like Konrath is trying to be too much like Evanovish with quirky characters and it's just not working as well. Witty dialogue and Jack's sarcasm are fun to read though.

It takes her a while to figure out who the real targets are but, as always, she gets her man. On the personal side, her partner switches to burglary, and her boyfriend proposes. Life is always exciting for Lieutenant Jacqueline Daniels!

I was hoping this was similar to the Stephanie Plum novels. It was a good suspense story, and there was some humor in it. But not as funny as the Plum novels.

A pretty interesting plot involving mass poisoning, but it took me a while to get into it. (I was reading in front of the TV, and while drowsy.)

Jack Daniels is having problems: her wonderful boyfriend wants to marry her, her partner wants to go to another division (he can't stand seeing her almost killed yet again), her dead father really isn't dead and a sociopath is poisoning the entire city and it promises to get worse. Great story, very exciting with interesting twists. 111307

This review was originally done by me for The Internet Book Database. http://www.ibookdb.net Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels is on the trail of another murderer. This one calls himself “The Chemist” and he's been busy poisoning Chicago's food. Nothing is safe; because no one knows exactly where he's struck. If that wasn't enough stress for a woman to deal with, Jack's boyfriend, Latham, proposes to her. He's the most perfect and understanding man in the world - so why can't she just say yes to him? When Latham becomes one of many in the long list of The Chemist's victims, Jack begins to worry that he won't be around long enough for her to give him that “yes” after all. Add to that, she's now working side-by-side with a very hot and very interested Special Agent and it looks like wedding bells for her and Latham won't be chiming any time soon. Meanwhile, The Chemist is out there and still poisoning people. More than once Jack nearly becomes his victim herself. He's demanding two million dollars or he keeps on killing. How many more people will die before they catch him? And will they be able to stop him before his grand finale? DIRTY MARTINI is J.A. Konrath's best one yet. The fear in this book really hits home. Imagine if the very food you depended on to live, could kill you within minutes or possibly hours. I flew through this book in less than twenty-four hours. I had to know what was going to happen and how it would all end. My only disappointment is that DIRTY MARTINI is now over and I'll have a while to wait for the next Jack Daniels mystery.
