The one reason why I like Rainbow Six is because there is so much suspense in the action sequences. I also like the book because the detail that Tom Clancy goes into to describe the situations is really superb. He goes and even describes the weapons that the terrorists use, but even in serious situations the guys of Rainbow Six keep a small bit of humor in it. The part that really got me hooked on the book was how they use such professional tactics to defeat any situation.

The story is about a group of elite, highly trained soldiers who come from a lot of different military backgrounds and are code-named RAINBOW. The book starts out on a commercial plane that is being hijacked. However the leader of the team, John Clark, is on the plane along with a fellow team member, Ding Chavez, and they diffuse the situation with ease. They then head over to Hereford, England where they start training to be part of Rainbow team. Shortly after they start training, a bank in Switzerland is robbed and there are hostages taken inside. The Rainbow team arrives shortly, disguised as Swiss Police to keep the identity of Rainbow team concealed, The Rainbow team eliminates the terrorists inside the bank and save the hostages. After that another terrorist, plot arises and Rainbow again goes to help. Over time, these occurrences keep happening on a regular basis, which begins to seem suspicious. Eventually, Rainbow team figures out that all of these terrorist plots are connected and that a pharmaceutical company is creating a super disease that will kill off everybody on Earth, except for their own employee’s so they could start the world anew.

My favorite character in the book would have to be the leader of the team, John Clark, He is so professional in everything that he does, and I find it interesting that he is the best of the best. I also like him as a character because he commands the whole team and still manages to get the job done. If I could change one thing in the book it would be making the book shorter because there is no way I could ever finish the book. Even though a lot of the terrorist plots are important, I think you could possible cut one or two of them out to make the book a little shorter. I would also try to remove the boring, political parts of the book and replace those with more action scenes. I prefer the action scenes a lot more than the scenes where there is basically nothing happening and they are at base.

I would definitely recommend this book, but only to someone who really has the time on their hands to read such a monstrously large book because this is surely not a quick read (at least not for me). People who I would recommend the book to would have to be in high school or at least 14. It also seems like it would be more of a book for men but it could be for women.

Loved it. More about Clark & Ding and shows how this (kind of) spinoff can stand up and keep you entertained - another must read!
