Corduroy the teddy bear sits on the shelf of the toy department, waiting anxiously for someone to take him home. Who could not fail to warm to him, with his lost look and loose shoulder strap? He plainly needs looking after. No, says the girl's mother, we have spent enough already and, anyway, he has a button missing. As soon as the store closes, Corduroy is off to find the button. He makes his way to the furniture department and, trying to pull a button off a mattress, knocks over a lamp, and is returned to his shelf by a bemused night watchman. The next day, the girl, Lisa, returns with her own money to buy Corduroy.
