Of the entire series, this one is my favorite. It is Annes happily ever after, but it is true to life, with tragedies and disappointments. I love who Anne has become.

It's even better of a read now that I'm married!

Anne and Gilbert start their lives together.. Every bit as funny, romantic and dream-filled as they ever wanted their lives to be!!

It was fantastic! Sooooo sad yet sooo happy.... SPOILER: Anne has her first child, who dies shortly after she is born, but Anne has another child near the end of the book, James Matthew, who is a healthy baby. Anne is never the same, though.

There are many words of wisdom in this series of books. I am thankful to have discovered them.

Number five in the Anne of Green Gables series, House of Dreams is my second favorite after the original Anne. She and Gilbert finally marry, are established at Four Winds Harbor where Gilbert begins his medical career, and experience joy and sorrow in their little house of dreams. Two of the most endearing characters of the series are introduced in this book - neighbor Leslie Moore, and lighthouse keeper, Captain Jim.

Being a homeless romantic myself, one of my favorite passages is in chapter 29: ...he still looked upon Anne with the incredulous eyes of a lover. He couldn't wholly believe yet that she was really his. It might be only a dream after all, part and parcel of this magic house of dreams. His soul still went on tip-toe before her, lest the charm be shattered and the dream dispelled."

Ah, to have known a man whose soul went on tip-toe before me! Or to have been a woman that inspired such feeling! Doesn't this just put Gilbert Blythe right up there with Fitzwilliam Darcy?

We get to see Anne's first real, true heartbreak, and it's sad! At least she's still got handsome Gil.

Probably my favorite of the series this time through. Being grown up and having been through some of the things that Anne has been through in this book, I find I can relate to it a great deal better than as a child. I am surprised how grown up the book really is. Not to say it deals with controversial material but rather the emotions are more complex than in the four previous books.
