Do Me, Do My Roots

by Eileen Rendahl

It's about healing.
After a couple of rough years, Emily is finally getting things back together. She doesn't need to re-do everything at work three times, her young daughter's soccer uniform is almost always clean the day of a game, and meals are pretty darn reliable, too. But hey, becoming a widow at thirty-three kind of knocks the starch out of you.
It's about family.

Emily is a young widow, single mother to a seven year daughter, and clinging to what's kept her living since losing her husband: her daughter, her parents, her husband's best friend who's taken a sudden interest in her, and her sisters. Meeting to touch up her sisters' roots each month, the sisters agonize over their love lives and lack there of. They deal with family issues, health close-calls, and finding love in unexpected places.

I absolutely adored this book. It made me want to call my sister more often and love my husband a little better. The humor is hysterical and the emotions are poignant. I highly recommend this book.
Humorous and loving.

I enjoyed this book very much but I expected more from it because some people were raving about this author.
She know how to writes about serious topics without going overboard and she knows how to include just the right about of humor without it becoming overbearing. All in al it was a great book and I'm looking forward to future releases from her.
I agree with the other reviews.

Great, great book. Having 4 sisters I could really relate to this book. It was fun and endearing. The characters were realistically flawed and wonderfully human. Although the ending was predictible, I wouldn't have wanted it any way else. Get this book and have fun!!
Title doesn't do this book justice

I almost didn't read this book because the title makes it sound like it will be lurid and frankly sort of stupid. I am so glad I gave it a chance, this is a prime example of not judging a book by it's cover. I have a fondness for books about sisters, I guess because I don't have a sister. The sisters in this book are great characters, alternately irritating and supporting one another. One sister is a recent widow, the others divorced. The author does a great job of touching on serious topics without seeming contrived. Such as the widow aspect which lends the book a lot of heart. One of the sisters ex-husbands is a drug addict which brings in a controversial subject and at the same time leaving it open for some very funny things to happen. The parents are funny and endearing, while they deal with health issues and the prospect of moving to a retirement home. Well balanced with a lot of serious issues but still lots of funny moments. I would compare this to some of the better chick lit I have read by authors like Anna Maxted and Jennifer Weiner, I can't wait to read more by this author.
